Demerit System

PROCEDURE

1. All pupils start on 0 demerits.

2. Demerits from Term 4 are carried over to the following year.

3. Each offence incurs a specific demerit penalty.  For example, “bunking” incurs 15 demerits.

4. For every offence both Educator and Leaner sign a demerit slip detailing the offence which will be filed under the control of the Grade Tutor. Educator and, in certain cases, the Administration staff may give misdemeanour slips for repeated lateness.

5. Different responses from the school occur depending on the number of demerits that a learner reaches.  At 80 demerits, a pupil over the age of 15 is advised to leave Edenvale High School and not be readmitted in the next year.

6. At any stage, the Grade Tutor may also give an appropriate punishment.  Also, for minor offences teachers need not use the Demerit System if they have more effective and immediate measures.
